If until now you thought that camping in Croatia was not for you and you preferred luxury hotels, let me change your thinking. Just like I changed it. Long gone are the days of camping, where you only lived in a tent, you had cold water and you were afraid to go to the toilet. Now I will convince you why to visit this resort, because I haven't been this excited about a resort in a long time. Welcome to Avalona!
Location
Campsite Avalona is a newly built resort, opened in 2024, on a peninsula near the town of Povljana on the island of Pag, in Croatia. If you arrive from the bottom of Pag, there is a bridge from the mainland. If you would like to drive along the coast and want to take a ferry ride that takes 20 minutes, board the Prizna - Žigljen ferry (Island Pag, Jadrolinia ferry). You can pay by card. In the peak season from June to September, you pay 4.3 Euros per person and 18.10 Euros per car. The campsite is a completely separate fenced resort, there is nothing around (the nearest town is Povljana 4 km). So that you don't have to leave the resort during your stay, you will find everything you need here, more detailed information below.
Avalona Campsite
Avalona resort belongs to the hotel and camping network Aminess campsites and Aminess Hotels, which has dozens of hotels, campsites and villas of various categories in Croatia. You can become a member of their loyalty program and profit from it.
The interesting thing about the Avalona resort is that it is not accessible by car. The entire area is fenced and entered through a secure gatehouse. Right behind the gatehouse is the reception where you park and check in. Afterwards, you will park in shaded places around the reception. Only staying guests are allowed to park in the area. If you would like to come only to the water park, you must park in one of the parking lots in front of the complex. If you have an electric car, there are also a few places reserved for charging, for a fee. An electric trolley will then take you from your car to your accommodation, including your luggage. I recommend not taking unnecessary things with you, you will be in a swimsuit on the terrace or on the beach most of the day anyway, what for a suitcase full of clothes, there is not so much space in the houses. Logically, the only exception to entry is those who come to the camp by caravan or car and want to camp, they drive themselves to their place of accommodation. The camping sites are closest to the reception. There are no longer roads around the holiday homes, rather only larger sidewalks for electric carts. And it's good. You don't have to breathe fumes. You can also bring your dog to the campsite. If you like luxury and comfort, you can order camping sites with a private pool. The sanitary facilities in the camp are beautiful, new, you can lock yourself in the shower, there is a hairdryer, and the buildings also include washing machines, dishwashers, irons, ironing boards, you simply have all the comforts.
Types of accommodation in Avalona
The area is huge and can be divided into several parts:
1) camping and pitching sites in a pine grove, without swimming pools
2) camping and pitching sites in a pine grove closer to the sea, without swimming pools
3) camping and pitching sites with their own pools right by the sea
4) glamping houses with or without their own pools, above the wild beach, with a great view of Povljana
5) holiday homes with or without private pools
6) holiday houses in the first row by the sea, with private pools and the biggest terrace, these are of course the best
We had a holiday home right by the beach, and we were so excited about it that I would love to camp here for the whole summer! So I will describe it to you now.
Holiday home in the first row right next to the beach
These holiday homes will take your breath away especially with their huge terrace (the only one with a terrace on two sides and with a direct sea view, the rest of the houses have a side view) and a luxurious view of the beach and the sea. Pine trees grow on the beaches and the terraces are partly shaded. The terraces have a built-in swimming pool, an adult's level is up to the chest, the pool has built-in comfortable steps. On the terraces you have deckchairs, a parasol, a dining table with chairs and two couches. And a dryer. And a socket, so entrepreneurs can work comfortably from the terrace. Each house may have slightly different equipment and interior layout, so I am only describing houses directly by the sea.
Our house can comfortably accommodate 4 people, 6 in case of emergency, the sofa in the kitchen can be folded out, but I don't know where everyone would put their stuff, I recommend it for 4. We were 3 adults and it was just enough. 2 adults and two children are also comfortable. You enter the kitchen, which also serves as a living space. There is a large dining table, sofa, air conditioning, TV, refrigerator with freezer, bins for sorted waste, bin for normal waste, microwave oven, dishwasher, electric contact grill, Nespresso capsule coffee machine, electric kettle, ceramic hob, shovel, broom. Of course, all utensils for normal cooking and a tea towel are provided. You will receive a welcome package with a small dishwashing liquid, a few dishwasher tablets, a rag, a garbage bag, and a mosquito repellent candle. I recommend bringing your own lighter if you want to light candles, trash bags (min. 60 l), tablets for the dishwasher, capsules for the Nespresso coffee machine, a sponge, salt, pepper, spices, oil and food of course. If you forget something, nothing happens, there is a fairly large supermarket in the campsite. There is an ice container in the freezer. If there are more of you, ice packs could also come in handy. The cleaning service does not come to the houses. You take out the basket yourself. Above the houses, there are built-in trash cans for both sorted waste and normal waste by the road. If you still need cleaning, or for example changing towels, you will receive a number for the Concierge, who will arrange everything for you. You can also order a ride by electric cart through it when you check out. I don't think it's very cool that you have to call him in a foreign country. For me, it would be much better to write to him via Whats up or mail, so that you don't have to pay for an expensive call.
I didn't expect that there would be two bathrooms in that little house, each with a toilet, so that's great. Here you will find a large package of hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and a welcome Vanity Kit package. There is also a hairdryer in one of the bathrooms. Everyone gets two towels, plus a beach towel, bathrobe and slippers. The master bedroom has a double bed, air conditioning, TV and enough storage space next to and above the beds. The suitcase fits under the bed. In the smaller bedroom there are two separate beds and a small wardrobe, again I recommend not to take too many things.
Beaches, swimming pool, water park
From one half, the entire area is bordered by a long beach. The beach is for resort guests only, so it is half empty. You probably won't experience that anywhere else in Croatia in July, there are crowds on every beach! The beaches are made of pebbles. Either you can bring your own cushioned sunbed, or there are sunbeds and umbrellas freely available on the beaches (especially in the area of the beach bar), or you can bring your sunbed from the house there. Coastal pines grow along the beach, so there is plenty of shade. We always jumped off just to swim and lay on the sunbeds by our little house, you can choose if you want sun or shade. There are boulders in the sea, so I recommend water shoes if you have more sensitive feet. Showers, changing rooms and toilets are located on the beaches. Sunbeds, umbrellas and showers are included in the price of accommodation.
Dogs are not allowed to swim on the regular beach, but one beach is intended specifically for them.
On the other side of the resort below the glamping houses is a wild beach.
For guests of the resort, the price also includes a brand new water park, which opened in July. Here you will find various slides, or pools with water attractions for small children, you can lie on deckchairs, and umbrellas are also available.
For those who don't have their own pool, there is an infinity pool for guests behind the water park with a view of Povljana.
Resort equipment
Restaurants
You will find several restaurants here. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the main one. They have seafood, fish, meat, pizza, pasta, salads, sweets, etc. Right next door is a bakery with a pastry shop and a very well-equipped supermarket, open daily from 7 am to 9 pm. You can buy fruits, vegetables, pastries, barbecue items, meat, drinks, cosmetics, drugstores, household items, water shoes, sunbeds, and more. There is a bar on the beach where, in addition to beer, wine and mixed drinks, you can also eat something small, namely a pizza or a burger. In the evening there is live music. The 7 Seas restaurant - which is a well-known brand from Aminess - will be completed right by the sea on the edge of the resort. This is a luxury restaurant (fine dining), and this one will have a great view. You can pay by card everywhere.
Entertainment for children
Here you will find a children's club, where animators will take care of your children. Inside there is a game room, TV room, climbing frames. Outside there is a beautiful children's playground with wooden climbing frames and hammocks. In the evening, there is a mini disco here.
Sport
Even sports enthusiasts will be in paradise here. Here you will find a free tennis court, a field for ball sports, and you can rent bicycles, electric bicycles or scooters for a fee. There is a gym. Minigolf is completing them, and it will be extra great! Around the resort you can also run along the paths, around the sea.
